June Coffee Ride

The RCCS has been a bit dormant, but not dead. We’ve had a few rides, but they were impromptu events that weren’t posted here, or private rides.

We hope to change that and get at least one ride per month.

So, this Saturday, June 23 at 8:30am, join us at Breadworks at Douglass Loop. The idea is 30 minutes of coffee and socialization then a 20-30 mile relaxed pace ride around town.

New Washington Gravel Wander

We’re getting together Sunday, November 20th at 8:00am in New Washington Indiana for a 65-mile ride. Bring your gravel bike as we’re gravel hunting.

We know a few of the roads are gravel, others we’re guessing about. The majority of the ride will be paved, but expect gravel.

There is a store/lunch stop in Hanover.

We’re looking for a good parking location. You may call when coming into town to meet up. Call me, David, 812-989-7589.

Gravel Grovel

A bunch of us are tentatively planning to participate in this year’s Gravel Grovel. The Gravel Grovel is a 100-kilometer bicycle race over gravel roads and a little singletrack. This year’s race is going to be Saturday, November 26th. Race starts in Story Indiana. Registration doesn’t open until Saturday October 1st.

In true RCCS style, we’re hoping to ride to support each other. Yes, it’s still a race, and we want to be competitive, but we’d like to have a “no assholes” rule for anyone riding under the RCCS umbrella. See here for inspiration.

More information will be posted as the event date nears.

70 Miles From Orleans Indiana?

This Sunday, August 21st, you are welcome to join us for a day of riding in beautiful rural Indiana.

We meet in Orleans Indiana at 9:00 am. Exact meeting location TBD, but contact me (David) at 812-989-7589.

This is planned as a road ride, not a mixed-terrain. We may run across some incidental gravel, but that was not the point with the ride.

It is possible to get a ride from Louisville. Contact me at the number above at least a day in advance to plan.

LBC Populaire

Tomorrow the LBC is sponsoring its first Populaire brevet. Details can be found on the July LBC schedule here. The RCCS hasn’t done much this summer, but several of us will be in force tomorrow for the 100k ride out of the Highlands. Word is the route will include a couple yummy stops with some “real” riding in the middle. Ride begins at 9.00 and typically brevets have minimum time requirements. Don’t the know the specifics of this one, but it should be a good time.

Hayden Mixed-Terrain

It’s short notice, but we’re gonna try to get some rough stuff time this Sunday leaving out of Hayden, IN. Highlights:

59 miles
unknown gravel amount, but definitely some nice portions. I’d call it a road ride with gravel, not vice versa.
store stop in N.Vernon at 40 miles
potential stops at Selmier State Forest and Brush Creek Wildlife Area
warm, Spring weather

Here is the link to the route. We won’t have any cue sheets (we’re both running gps for this one), so this is definitely a group ride. We leave the elementary school in Hayden at 9.00. Saturday Coffee Ride 1.1

Short notice, but the RCCS will host a casual Coffee Ride tomorrow morning, Saturday, leaving from Douglass Loop at 8.00. Our route will take us on a meander west that will eventually include a mid-ride coffee stop before adding more mileage east. We’ll leave from Heine’s, but on the east side some of us will carve east at Westport and the Watterson, if that’s more your neck of the woods. The rest will loop back to the Loop.

Indianapolis Mini-Tour

This Saturday, sometime in the morning, I’m heading out for a five-day mini-tour going to Indianapolis, spending a day there, then riding home. Each leg of the trip is two days, stopping in hotels in Columbus IN.

I already have hotel reservations for the nights of 3/20 and 3/21 at the La Quinta in Downtown Indianapolis. The plan for the Columbus stay was to find a place when arriving.

Monday will be a ride around Indianapolis day. My wife will probably drive up to visit on that day.

This Sunday, March 13th, please join us for a 30-ish mile ride starting at Coffee Affair near Lagrange Rd. I’ve never been to the establishment, but adventure is what these rides are about. Ride starts at 8:00am. Please remember to set your clocks ahead before you go to bed the night before so you don’t miss the ride.

The route is not yet finalized, but wandering around Oldham county is the basic idea.
